SRM & SIBEX Sports Producing First Titanium Power
Meter
The
cycling community knows that power is the key to optimizing your
training. SRM is the world leader in power meters and is the gold
standard for accuracy and reliability. When power meters came out
they were considered heavy and people did not know the value of
them. In recent years SRM has reduced the weight in their power
meters. In addition SRM has made other cranks to fit their power
meters in an effort to appease sponsors and have a lighter stiffer
crank. SIBEX owner Scott Mares approached SRM in May of 2005 with
the idea to make a titanium crank for SRM. Mr. Mares was given
the green light to make a prototype for the company for testing.
The prototypes were delivered just a few months later and after
extensive testing they will now be available as a complete unit
through SIBEX Sports.
“The performance of this unit is
impressive.” Mares said. So how does it stack up against
the other power meters? This will be offered in ISIS which will
be the stiffest and lightest of its type obtainable by SRM . It
is lighter than any other Shimano, Campy or standard External BB
power meter combination. After testing, SRM has determined that
the titanium version has an accuracy of +/- 1%. This is more accurate
than the Dura Ace (D/A) version. Comparing the weights of the current
models looks equally as impressive. SRM PRO 956g, D/A 910g, FSA
880g and SIBEX 810g. This means that the titanium SRM is 18% lighter
than the PRO, 11% lighter than the D/A and 8.6% lighter than the
FSA Carbon. In comparison , all weights included their bottom brackets.
The PRO and SIBEX version used American Classic bottom brackets.
The Retail price for the titanium SRM is $3500.00
USD and is currently only available at SIBEX Sports. To facilitate
pre orders of this exclusive product SIBEX is taking reservations
for the Ti SRM. The reservations are $500.00 with the balance due
upon shipping. SIBEX is also offering a FREE American Classic bottom
bracket with this purchase for a limited time. Use special offer
code IVAN6 . To make a reservation for the new Ti SRM send a email

The review is in! Go to PezCyclingNews.com and see what they
had to say about our frame and us. There are lots of cool up close
photos of the bike. Charles had this frame down in AZ for a little
while and now he has hinted to the frame as being “King of
the Cobbles”. Also look for another review in “Road” magazine.

Here's
another sign, perhaps, of the rebirth of titanium as a material
du jour: a titanium aerobar. To be
launched May 15 by
new company Aero Concepts, the new bar is the result of five
years' work by its creator Steve Harad. "I started with aluminium and just wasn't happy with the
outcome. It was essentially a 'me too' product," Harad told
Cyclingnews. "I began working with Scott [Mares of Sibex Sports]
to produce a full titanium 1-piece aero bar. Titanium allows me
to produce something that noone else has."
That "something", according to Harad, is the Genesis
aerobar, an adjustable time trial bar and stem assembly that weighs
just 950g in 100mm stem/42cm width version. "We want the Genesis
to be easily customized to fit the rider's needs," says Harad. "We
are offering both "S Bend" extensions, straight extensions,
and the typical curved extensions. Our pads are fully adjustable
both fore and aft and left and right by approx. 5cm in each direction.
Our bar is swept forward 5 degrees and has internal cable routing
for increased aerodynamics."
The tech desk has to admit that it's been a long
time since time trialing was a big part of my riding (beyond 'how
fast can I get
to the office this morning?') but the Aero Concepts Genesis certainly
looks to have all the bases covered.

SIBEX Sports just
got word from the test rider at Pez Cyclingnews.com that they are
done with testing the frame. We do have the photos
of the bike and how it was tested and its new paint job. We spent
some time on the phone to get feedback from the test rider and
to see how we did. We won't spoil it for anyone. You will just
have to wait and see. Look for the review of the bike on their
web site at pezcyclingnes.com to see how we did. We would like
to thank the testers for taking the time to test our frame and
also to Deda for supplying the awesome cranks on the bike.

But we are a little bit bias. We sent one out to be ridden and
raced for more than a day. so don't take our word for it read
what dirtycycling.com had
to say about it. Look for our other bike reviews coming up. Road
Magazine has had one of our Interbike
show bikes for a little bit and Pez
cyclingnews.com got their hands on a frame with a custom Russian
Mural paint job!
SIBEX Sent out 3 bikes for testing and the first
one is back. We Sent a Road bike to Road magazine and Pez Cyclingnews.com
and a cyclocross
bike to Dirty cycling .com. The first review is back and you can
see at

“COSSACK” named one of top cross
bikes for 2004-2005 by Velo News. Volume 33/ No 17 October
25, 2004
Colorado Springs, CO September 23, 2004
On September 1 Andrew Juskaitis of Velo News came
by the SIBEX Sports booth at the Durango NORBA Finals and took a
look at the SIBEX “COSSACK” cyclocross bike.
Scott Mares Owner of SIBEX Sports took the time to
show Andrew exactly what makes this bike so special. “There
is nothing on the market like it” Mares told Andrew. After
a brief period of looking over the bike with a microscope Juskaitis
took it for a spin and came back a little bit later with a big grin
on his face. “I am really surprised how stiff it is,”
Juskaitis told Mares.
The bike was immediately whisked off for photos and
later appeared on the Velo News web site in the “Eye
Spy” feature of the Durango finals.
That next Friday an email was sent to SIBEX with an
invitation to appear in an upcoming issue of Velo News cyclocross
special. The Bike was one of 6 that were chosen for the shoot. The
Issue is already on news stands.
“Its one thing to produce a great product, but
its even better to have your peers recognize and appreciate what
you have done”. “To me that is the Best” Mares
said.
