 SRM & SIBEX Sports Producing First Titanium
Power Meter

The
cycling community knows that power is the key to optimizing
your training. SRM is the world leader in power meters and
is the gold standard for accuracy and reliability. When power
meters came out they were considered heavy and people did
not know the value of them. In recent years SRM has reduced
the weight in their power meters. In addition SRM has made
other cranks to fit their power meters in an effort to appease
sponsors and have a lighter stiffer crank. SIBEX owner Scott
Mares approached SRM in May of 2005 with the idea to make
a titanium crank for SRM. Mr. Mares was given the green light
to make a prototype for the company for testing. The prototypes
were delivered just a few months later and after extensive
testing they will now be available as a complete unit through
SIBEX Sports.
 “The
performance of this unit is impressive.” Mares
said. So how does it stack up against the other power meters?
This will be offered in ISIS which will be the stiffest
and lightest of its type obtainable by SRM . It is lighter
than any other Shimano, Campy or standard External BB power
meter combination. After testing, SRM has determined that
the titanium version has an accuracy of +/- 1%. This is
more accurate than the Dura Ace (D/A) version. Comparing
the weights of the current models looks equally as impressive.
SRM PRO 956g, D/A 910g, FSA 880g and SIBEX 810g. This means
that the titanium SRM is 18% lighter than the PRO, 11%
lighter than the D/A and 8.6% lighter than the FSA Carbon.
In comparison , all weights included their bottom brackets.
The PRO and SIBEX version used American Classic bottom
brackets.
 The Retail price for the titanium SRM is $3500.00
